Field Guide
The comprehensive operating manual and technical reference for Remanet.art. An exhaustive guide to building, framing, calibrating, and publishing immersive 360° art exhibitions on the web.
1. Core Philosophy & Architecture
Remanet is a local-first studio for authoring and distributing high-fidelity 360° virtual exhibitions. It is engineered around three unbreakable technical principles:
- Zero-Upload Privacy: All image slicing, pyramid tile generation, 3D perspective homography, and project file management occur entirely in your local browser using client-side Web Workers, HTML5 Canvas, and the File System Access API. Your photographs, high-res artwork masters, and metadata are never uploaded to a Remanet server.
- Host Independence: Exported exhibitions are 100% self-contained static web folders. Once exported, your tour operates autonomously on any standard web host (GitHub Pages, Netlify, Apache, Nginx, S3) without requiring Remanet accounts, subscription fees, or license servers.
- Desktop PWA Installability: Remanet can be installed as a native desktop application on Chrome and Edge. It operates with fast cached launch speeds and direct local folder synchronization.
2. Projects & Local Storage
The top quick-access toolbar controls your exhibition project storage:
Top toolbar controls (left to right):
- New project (Ctrl/⌘ + N): Initialize a new tour project folder on your computer.
- Open project (Ctrl/⌘ + O): Open an existing project directory containing a
tour.jsonmanifest. - Save (Ctrl/⌘ + S): Write current changes directly to your local files.
- Undo (Ctrl/⌘ + Z): Revert the previous editing action.
- Redo (Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + Z or Ctrl/⌘ + Y): Reapply undone edits.
- Preview: Launch the full visitor experience in a test overlay without exporting.
Creating a New Project
Click New project (Ctrl/⌘ + N) on the welcome screen or in the top toolbar. When prompted by the browser, choose an empty folder on your computer. Remanet initializes your local directory structure:
my-exhibition/
├── index.html # Standalone viewer entry point
├── tour.json # Complete exhibition manifest & annotations
├── field-assets/ # Runtime engine, viewer styles, and bundled fonts
├── media/ # Panorama tile pyramids, artwork images, audio & 3D models
└── .field/ # Local version stamps & previous save recovery
Opening an Existing Project
Click Open project (Ctrl/⌘ + O) and select any directory containing an existing Remanet tour.json. The studio will verify file integrity, load all locations, parse polygon coordinates, and restore your exact editing workspace.
Autosave & Revisions
Remanet continuously autosaves project changes directly to your connected disk folder. Every mutation increments the internal revision counter. Full undo (Ctrl/⌘ + Z) and redo (Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + Z) are active throughout your editing session.
Practice Demo Sandbox
If you launch Remanet without opening a folder, you can click Explore the Demo to enter a sandboxed exhibition. All edits remain strictly in memory within the current tab, allowing risk-free experimentation with polygon tools, lighting calibration, and guided tour sequencing.
3. Hardware & Performance Profiles
Panoramic rendering demands significant memory. Access the Quality & memory panel on the left rail (or click » to slide out the rail) to switch performance profiles:
| Profile | Target Systems | Resolution Pyramid | Behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| Safe / Low-Memory | Laptops with integrated graphics, older tablets, systems with ≤ 4GB RAM. | Tiles up to 4096px / 8192px. | Aggressive tile cache purging; prevents tab crashes on memory-constrained devices. |
| Uncapped High-Detail | Workstations, modern desktop GPUs, dedicated art viewing kiosks. | Full 11264px & 16384px (16K) tiles. | Maximum zoom fidelity; preserves brushstroke-level inspection in large galleries. |
4. 360° Photography Specifications & Field Capture
Image Requirements
- Projection: Equirectangular (full 360° horizontal × 180° vertical spherical capture).
- Aspect Ratio: Exact 2:1 width-to-height ratio (e.g. 8192×4096, 11264×5632, 16384×8192). Dual-fisheye or reframed images must be stitched before import.
- Minimum Dimensions: 1024 × 512 pixels.
- Recommended Resolution: 8192 × 4096 (8K) to 16384 × 8192 (16K) in JPEG, PNG, or WebP.
Gallery Field Capture Guidelines (SOP)
-
Standard Tripod Height
Mount the camera nodal point at standing eye level: 150 cm to 160 cm (59–63 inches). Avoid low or excessively tall angles unless capturing high installation sculptures.
-
Horizon Leveling
Use physical or electronic bubble levels. A tilted horizon causes disorienting camera roll during visitor navigation.
-
Lighting & Exposure Consistency
Shoot in Manual exposure mode. Lock white balance to avoid color shifts between adjacent rooms. For high-contrast spaces with bright windows, shoot bracketed HDR captures (±2 EV) and fuse before stitching.
-
Line of Sight for Room Portals
Position camera tripods so that connecting doorways are clearly visible. A visitor standing in Room A should be able to see through the portal into Room B.
5. Importing Spheres & Pyramid Tiling
To add a location, drag a 360° equirectangular image directly onto the stage, or click Upload sphere on the left rail, or click + Location in the bottom library footer.
The Pyramid Tile Architecture
Rather than transferring massive 50MB image files to the browser at once, Remanet’s background canvas workers locally generate a deep-zoom multi-resolution tile pyramid cut into 512 × 512 pixel tiles:
| Pyramid Level | Panorama Width × Height | Grid Dimensions | Tile Count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | 1024 × 512 px | 2 × 1 tiles | 2 tiles (instant low-res preview) |
| Level 2 | 2048 × 1024 px | 4 × 2 tiles | 8 tiles (mobile overview) |
| Level 3 | 4096 × 2048 px | 8 × 4 tiles | 32 tiles (standard room navigation) |
| Level 4 | 8192 × 4096 px | 16 × 8 tiles | 128 tiles (desktop high-res) |
| Level 5 | 11264 × 5632 px | 22 × 11 tiles | 242 tiles (extended detail) |
| Level 6 | 16384 × 8192 px | 32 × 16 tiles | 512 tiles (extreme master inspection) |
6. Location Management & Deep-Link Slugs
All imported 360° spaces are listed under the Locations (1) tab in the sidebar:
- Renaming & Slugs: When you title a location (e.g. "Sculpture Atrium"), Remanet automatically assigns a clean, web-safe URL slug (
sculpture-atrium). Visitors can deep-link directly into this room via hash anchors (e.g.myexhibition.com/#sculpture-atrium). - Reordering Locations: Drag and drop location items in the sidebar list to organize the physical flow. The top location automatically acts as the exhibition entrance unless customized.
- Visitor Visibility: Toggle Visible to visitors in location details to hide rooms undergoing curation. Hidden rooms retain all polygons and notes in the editor but are excluded from published navigation.
7. Opening Views & Tour Cover Generation
When a visitor steps into a room, you control what they see first:
- Method A (Captured Camera View): Pan and zoom the panorama to the desired opening framing, open Location Details, and click Capture current view. This locks the exact starting Yaw, Pitch, and Field of View (FOV).
- Method B (Automatic Polygon Framing): Select an existing polygon outline (e.g. a focal mural or centerpiece sculpture). When visitors enter, the engine automatically calculates camera angles to frame that polygon cleanly on screen.
8. Tripod & Nadir Floor Caps
A spherical camera inevitably records its own tripod, mounting head, and shadow directly below the camera at the nadir pole (Pitch −90°). Click Tripod & floor cap on the left rail to open the masking controls:
- Adjustment Controls: Radius/Size, Rotation angle, Opacity (0–100%), and Edge Feathering (creates a soft gradient blend into gallery hardwood or polished concrete).
- Global vs. Local Overrides: Configure a project-wide default floor cap in the tool-rail. Individual locations can override the setting or turn it off if the floor features unique site-specific patterns.
9. Soundscapes & Ambient Room Audio
Acoustic atmosphere transforms a 360° virtual space from a static photograph into a living gallery. Remanet allows you to attach an ambient audio track to each location, establishing room acoustics, subtle street noise, or architectural resonance.
Supported Audio Formats & Encoding
Remanet supports three standard HTML5 web audio formats:
| Format | File Extension | Recommended Bitrate | Browser Compatibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| MP3 | .mp3 |
128 – 192 kbps CBR | 100% universal (Desktop, iOS Safari, Android Chrome) |
| AAC / M4A | .m4a, .aac |
128 – 160 kbps VBR | Native on Apple devices, supported on modern WebKit/Blink |
| Ogg Vorbis | .ogg |
128 kbps | Open web standard, excellent compression on Chromium & Firefox |
Browser Autoplay Policies & Unmute Flow
Modern browsers (particularly iOS Safari, Chrome, and Edge) enforce strict autoplay policies: audio playback cannot begin until the visitor explicitly interacts with the document (a click or tap). Remanet handles this transparently:
- When an exhibition loads, audio begins in a muted standby state.
- A speaker icon button is placed in the viewer interface allowing visitors to toggle sound at any time.
- On the visitor's very first click anywhere on the canvas (looking around or opening an artwork), Remanet unlocks the
AudioContextand gently fades the ambient sound in over 1.2 seconds.
Volume Balancing & Smooth Fades
Remanet automatically fades ambient audio tracks smoothly across room transitions and user unmute events over 1.2 seconds, ensuring background sound sits discreetly beneath visitor exploration without jarring pops or sudden volume jumps.
Audio Audition, Waveform EQ & Timeline Scrubber
In both the Location details drawer and the Audio track inspector, Remanet provides full interactive playback controls so curators can audition files directly inside the editor without switching out to an external media player:
- Live Audition Play/Pause: Click the circular play button to audition the audio track instantly.
- Animated Waveform EQ: Visual equalizer bars pulse dynamically while audio is actively playing, providing immediate visual feedback.
- Interactive Timeline Scrubber: Drag the timeline slider to jump forward or backward to any timestamp in the recording. A live readout displays elapsed time alongside total duration (e.g.
1:24 / 3:45). - Audition Volume Slider: Balance listening levels comfortably between 0% and 100% while curating, independent of visitor defaults.
Global Soundtrack vs. Room Soundscapes
- Global Soundtrack: In the Audio library tab (5), open the Global soundtrack controls in the property panel to enable continuous ambient playback across all locations. Great for gallery background music or unified acoustic ambience.
- Room-Specific Ambient Audio: In Location details, assign a dedicated soundscape to a specific room, adjust its playback volume slider (0–100%), and toggle seamless looping. When a visitor navigates into this room, Remanet crossfades to its dedicated audio track; when leaving for a room without a custom track, the global soundtrack smoothly resumes.
- Audio Library Tab (5): All uploaded tracks are organized under the Audio tab in the library sidebar. Curators can review track duration, file size, audio format, assign tracks to room locations, and designate files for the global exhibition soundtrack.
10. Artwork Cataloging & Records
Click the Works (2) tab to manage the exhibition's artwork inventory. Click + Work in the library footer to open the catalog inspector. In Remanet, artwork management is organized into three focused sub-nav tabs:
Tab 1: Artwork Details & Commercial Metadata
Manage the work’s catalog identity, visitor visibility, rich-text curatorial statement, and commercial inquiry options:
Tab 2: Gallery Placements & Vantage Points
Define how the work is spatially anchored in your 360° exhibition, its polygon hot-zone on gallery walls, opening camera framing, and vantage points:
Tab 3: Detail Photographs & Protected 3D Models
Attach ultra-high-resolution photographs and 3D digital twins. Under Remanet's Zero-Download architecture, master models and media are preserved securely without visitor download options:
11. Visibility Controls
Remanet provides two levels of visibility for each catalog work:
| Setting | Active (Checked) | Disabled (Unchecked) |
|---|---|---|
| Visible to visitors | Item is accessible in the tour, clickable, and navigable. | Item is completely hidden from visitors. Retains its full record in the editor. |
| Include in artwork list | Appears in the visitor's slide-out artwork drawer. | Work is omitted from the drawer list, but remains clickable and framed in 3D gallery space. Excellent for subtle or background works. |
12. High-Resolution Detail Photos & 3D Models
Detail Images & Responsive Derivatives
Attach high-resolution photographs to an artwork using Upload image on the left rail or via Images & models in Artwork Details. Remanet resizes them locally into responsive screen derivatives:
- Derivatives are optimized for high-DPI retina displays and mobile phones without transferring multi-megabyte master files over the network.
- Visitors can pinch-to-zoom and inspect close-up brushwork, surface textures, and signatures in an overlay viewer.
3D Model Attachments & Zero-Download Protection
Use Upload 3D model on the left rail or within the Images & models inspector tab to attach digital sculpture files: .glb, .gltf, .obj, .stl, .ply, .fbx, and .usdz.
13. Spatial Placements & Viewpoints
An artwork record exists independently of gallery spaces until you anchor it in 3D:
-
Aim the Camera
In the panorama stage, pan and zoom until the artwork is centered at a comfortable viewing distance.
-
Save Viewpoint
In Artwork Details, click Place work in this location. Remanet records the current location ID, Yaw, Pitch, and FOV.
-
Multi-Room Vantage Points
Works visible from multiple vantage points (e.g. from an adjacent corridor or mezzanine) can have multiple saved viewpoints. Click Make preferred (☆) to designate which view is displayed when a visitor selects the work from the catalog drawer.
14. Editions, Pricing & Sales Inquiries
For commercial art galleries, independent artists, and art fair exhibitions, Remanet provides dedicated curatorial fields to display edition runs, acquisition pricing, and one-click inquiry channels directly inside the visitor's artwork inspection drawer.
Global Exhibition Settings vs. Artwork Overrides
Remanet provides a global exhibition-wide inquiry configuration under Exhibition details on the left rail:
- Default Inquiry Button Action: Set the baseline behavior across all works: Email inquiry, Direct link to URL, or Hidden.
- Default Gallery Contact Email / Acquisition URL: Enter your primary gallery contact address (e.g.
acquisitions@gallery.art) or acquisition portal URL (e.g.https://gallery.art/inquire). - Inheritance & Overrides: In the Works inspector, every piece defaults to
Use exhibition default. If an individual work requires a direct link to an e-commerce checkout page, a dedicated artist studio email, or should hide inquiry buttons entirely (e.g. for NFS or museum loans), curators can override the setting specifically on that record.
Automated Mailto Inquiry Generation
When configured for email inquiries, Remanet formats a standardized, pre-populated message when a visitor clicks Inquire about this artwork:
To: acquisitions@gallery.art
Subject: Artwork Inquiry: "Solaris II" (Inv #ART-2026-08)

17. Precision Drawing & Navigation Controls
While an outline is active, the top polygon toolbar appears with dedicated controls:
- Look Around Without Leaving Drawing: Press H or click in the top toolbar, or hold the Middle Mouse Button and drag. You can pan freely around the panorama without losing draft vertices.
- Detail Magnifier: A real-time zoomed sub-window docked at the top right of the sidebar. Shows a 2× to 4× magnification of the exact pixels under your cursor for pinpoint corner accuracy. Adjust magnification with + and −.
- Corner Editing: Click any outline edge line to insert a new vertex. Drag existing corner circles to adjust their position. Select a circle and press Delete or Backspace (or right-click) to remove it.
- Undo & Cancel: Press Ctrl/⌘ + Z to undo the last placed corner point. Press Esc to cancel current drawing.
- Finishing Outlines: Press Ctrl/⌘ + Enter or click the green checkmark Save polygon button.
18. Polygon Actions & Links
Click in the toolbar to configure what happens when a visitor clicks the outline:
- Artwork Focus: Links the outline to an artwork catalog record. Clicking centers the camera on the piece and opens its detailed info sheet.
- Blurb (3D Wall Plaque): Displays a virtual museum wall plaque rendered directly on the physical wall in 3D perspective.
- Location Portal: Teleports the visitor to another panorama location. You can specify the exact destination view angle upon arrival (e.g. entering through a doorway).
- External URL / Tour: Opens an external web link, catalog PDF, or relative path to another Remanet tour.
- None: Acts as an invisible click boundary or serves as an opening-view framing anchor.
19. Opening Framing & Field of View (FOV)
Configured under the Opening framing panel on the left rail:
20. What Are 3D Wall Tags & Blurbs?
In physical museums, wall didactic labels (tombstone tags, curatorial wall text, room introductions) are mounted beside artworks or at gallery entrances. Remanet brings this into virtual space with 3D Wall Tags & Blurbs.
Unlike flat floating popups, blurbs are mapped onto the physical gallery walls using 4-point homography matrices. As visitors pan and rotate around the room, blurbs scale, skew, and recede along the exact angle of the wall.
- Artwork Wall Tags: Auto-generated from an artwork record, displaying Artist, Title, Medium, Dimensions, Year, and Statement.
- Standalone Blurbs: Curatorial statements, room titles, donor recognition plaques, or directional signage (managed under the Blurbs (3) tab).
21. Mounting Plaques on Perspective Walls
-
Initiate Mounting
From Artwork Details, click + Create & mount tag on wall, or from Blurb Details click + Mount tag plaque on wall.
-
Place the 4 Wall Corners
Click four corners on the wall surface to define the plaque boundary (Top-Left → Top-Right → Bottom-Right → Bottom-Left). Follow the architectural perspective of baseboards or doorframes.
-
Inspect Homography
Save the polygon (Ctrl/⌘ + Enter). Remanet instantly renders the rendered plaque in full 3D perspective.
22. Plaque Orientation Controls (Rotate & Flip)
When drafting corners in perspective, wall angles can sometimes invert text orientation. Three dedicated toolbar commands correct this instantly:
- Rotate plaque 90° (R): Cycles text orientation 90 degrees clockwise without having to redraw corners.
- Flip horizontally: Mirrors the plaque horizontally across its vertical centerline.
- Flip vertically: Inverts the plaque upside down across its horizontal centerline.
23. Lighting Simulation & Appearance Calibration
Click Wall tags & blurbs on the left rail to open the physical lighting simulator:
Installed under natural ambient daylight with balanced directional gallery warmth.
24. Video Screens & Projected Media
Contemporary exhibitions frequently feature time-based media: CRT video monitors, flat-panel wall displays, and large-scale architectural video projections. Remanet empowers curators to mount living, synchronized Installation Videos directly into 360° gallery rooms.
Switch to the Videos (6) tab in the sidebar or press 6. Video screens are rendered via GPU-accelerated 4-point homography matrices onto an HTML5 canvas. As visitors explore the room, the video is warped in real-time perspective along the physical wall angles—just like physical screens mounted in the space.
25. Mounting, Warping & Uniform Scaling
To place a video screen in a gallery:
- Upload Video Media: Click Upload or switch to the Videos (6) tab and select an MP4, WebM, or MOV video file.
- Draft Screen Geometry: Use the Three-point rectangle or Polygon tool (P). Click the 4 corners of the physical wall monitor, projector screen, or architectural surface.
- Assign Video: Set the polygon's action to Video Screen and pick your video asset. The video frame immediately warps to conform to the 4-corner perspective plane.
- Lock Aspect Ratio: Select
16:9,9:16,4:3, or1:1from the aspect ratio menu. The 4 corners will automatically square up to match the video's native proportions while adhering to the wall slant. - Uniform Scaling (+ / −): Press + or − on your keyboard (or click the toolbar buttons) to expand or shrink the screen by 5% increments around its centroid without distorting its perspective angle or aspect ratio.
- Rotation (R): Press R or click ↺ Rotate to rotate the screen corners 90° clockwise to match vertical installations or rotated wall mounts.
26. Artwork Polygon Masking
In physical galleries, video projectors often cast light across architectural trim, baseboards, or irregular physical surfaces, or the video content itself may only occupy a specific polygon subregion within a standard 16:9 video stream.
Remanet solves this with Artwork Polygon Masking:
- How it works: You can trace any arbitrary closed polygon outlining the precise artwork boundary. When linked as a mask, Remanet applies an inverted geometric clipping path (
ctx.clip()) during homography rendering. - Sphere Pass-Through: Any portion of the 16:9 video rectangle outside the mask is cleanly clipped away, allowing the underlying 360° spherical gallery wall to show through completely unobstructed.
- Independent Adjustment: You can reposition the outer 4-corner video projection rectangle (scale, move, rotate) or fine-tune individual vertices of the clipping polygon independently at any time.
- One-Click Clear: To remove the mask and restore standard rectangular projection, simply click Clear mask or press Delete while the mask is selected.
27. Auditioning, Playback & Audio Policies
Because multiple video screens in an editor could cause audio clash or GPU stutter, Remanet balances curation precision with performance:
- Silent Drafting: In the editor, videos remain paused by default so you can place polygons and edit text in peace.
- Proximity & Shake Reveal: A discreet play/pause icon sits at the center of the video screen. To keep the viewport unencumbered, it automatically fades out. Moving your mouse cursor toward the screen center or shaking the canvas brings the control back into view.
- Non-Clickable Screen Canvas: The video surface itself does not hijack your mouse clicks, allowing curators and visitors to smoothly drag and pan their view across the room without accidentally stopping the video.
- Keyboard Auditioning (Space): Press Space while editing a video screen to quickly toggle playback and preview sound synchronization.
- Visitor Experience: When exported to the public viewer, videos automatically play in seamless loops on their walls. Audio tracks play in authentic spatial harmony with room ambient soundscapes, adhering to browser autoplay policies with smooth visitor unmute interactions.
28. Authoring Guided Tours & Sequences
Switch to the Guide (4) tab in the sidebar. Click + Stop in the library footer to create sequential stops:
Automated Tour Playback, Transition Modes & Sequence Dragging
Remanet guided tours can run fully automated, gracefully guiding visitors from spot to spot without requiring manual clicking:
- Marking spots in a location: While in the Guide tab, frame your view and click Mark spot in the library footer, or double-click directly on the gallery walls to drop numbered spot pins directly onto the 360° panorama. Adding spots automatically enables the Guided Tour exhibition style for visitors.
- Attached transition sub-rows: In the Spots list, each spot features an attached second row containing its auto-advance dwell delay and its transition style to the next stop. Because this row is attached directly to the spot above, dragging a spot to reorder the sequence naturally moves its authored delay and transition options along with it.
- Movement vs. Crossfade: Curators can choose between two transition styles for each spot:
- Movement (4-direction arrow): The camera smoothly turns, tilts, and zooms across the panorama to frame the next stop.
- Crossfade (two-tone pixelated fade icon): Dissolves seamlessly between viewpoints without panning the camera, creating a tranquil photographic cut.
- Dynamic radial distance delay: Remanet automatically calculates the great-circle spherical angular distance (Δθ) between consecutive spots in a space and assigns a proportional default delay (a base viewing dwell plus smooth 30°/second camera traversal time). Wide pans across the room receive longer dwell times, while adjacent details advance briskly. Click ↺ to reset to the radial default at any time.
- Dynamic polygon framing & 10% screen padding: Guided stops support authored polygon bounds rather than rigid camera FOVs. When marking a spot or clicking Set from current viewport, Remanet unprojects the viewport corners with a 10% breathing margin. On any visitor device—whether ultra-wide desktop monitors, tablets, or vertical mobile screens (9:16)—the guided tour engine dynamically fits the polygon to the screen while maintaining at least 10% padding on all sides. Curators can also click Draw / edit framing polygon in the inspector or click the golden dashed polygon directly on the gallery walls to tailor the exact region displayed.
- Pause on viewport movement: Should a visitor look around, drag the canvas, scroll to zoom, or use navigation keys during automated playback, the auto-tour pauses instantly to give them full freedom. A discreet floating Resume guided tour button appears off to the side, allowing visitors to re-engage the curated sequence at any time.
29. Curatorial Camera Control (Locked Tours)
Under Visitor experience in the tool-rail, enable Lock looking and zooming in guided tours. When active, visitors can read commentary and advance stops, but camera panning and zooming are locked to your authored viewpoints, creating a strictly composed, cinematic presentation.
30. Exhibition Details & Typography
Click Exhibition details on the left rail to configure presentation metadata:
Residue: Spatial Memory
A survey of contemporary oil and sculptural works exploring physical presence and spatial volume across monumental architectural canvases.
31. Tour Navigation Modes
In the Visitor experience popout on the left rail, choose the tour's primary interaction style:
32. Visitor UI & First-Person View (FPV) Compass
In the editor footer, the FPV widget displays live Yaw (−180° to +180°), Pitch (−85° to +85°), and FOV (30° to 105°). Click the readout at any time to copy coordinates to your clipboard:
33. Deep-Linking, URL Parameters & QR Codes
Remanet provides a deterministic hash-based URL routing engine. Every individual room, specific artwork detail view, camera heading, and guided sequence can be directly targeted with a permanent hyperlink or QR code.
URL Structure & Query Parameters
All deep-links utilize standard URL fragments (#...), ensuring they function across all static web hosts, CDNs, and offline file systems without server rewrites:
https://exhibition.yourgallery.art/#loc=main-atrium&art=kinetic-mobile&yaw=142.5&pitch=-6.0&fov=55

Physical Gallery QR Codes
Curators frequently use Remanet's deep links to bridge physical and virtual gallery spaces:
- Wall Plaque QR Codes: Generate a QR code pointing directly to an artwork deep-link (e.g.
#art=mona-lisa). Visitors standing in front of the real painting can scan with their smartphone camera to inspect high-resolution raking light details, listen to multilingual curatorial audio, or examine related 3D conservation models. - Exhibition Catalog & Press Releases: Print QR codes next to catalog plates so remote readers can step into the physical room where the work was installed.
34. The Standalone Export Package
When you click Save (Ctrl/⌘ + S), Remanet writes your entire tour as a clean, static web package into your chosen project folder:
index.html: Standalone viewer and landing layout.tour.json: Machine-readable exhibition data, coordinates, and styling.field-assets/: Self-contained WebGL engine, viewer scripts, CSS stylesheets, and bundled Inter / DM Mono font files.media/: Sliced multi-resolution panorama tile pyramids, artwork detail photos, audio tracks, and attached 3D models..field/: Local runtime version stamps and previous save recovery state.
35. Pre-Flight Check & Viewer Updates
Inside the Visitor experience popout on the left rail, Remanet includes two maintenance actions:
- Check Before Uploading: Audits your saved exhibition folder for missing tiles, unlinked guided stops, broken image paths, or empty titles. Guarantees your export is launch-ready before deployment.

36. Web Hosting Deployment Guides
GitHub Pages (Free & Recommended)
-
Initialize Git Repository
Open your terminal inside your project folder and run:
git init && git add . && git commit -m "Publish exhibition" -
Push to GitHub
Create a GitHub repository and push your folder to the
mainbranch. -
Enable GitHub Pages
In your GitHub repository settings → Pages, set Source to Deploy from a branch, select
main / (root), and click Save. Your tour will be live athttps://username.github.io/reponame/.
Netlify (Drag & Drop)
Log in to Netlify → Sites → drag your entire project folder into the "Want to deploy a new site without connecting to Git?" drop zone. It will go live immediately with free HTTPS.
Traditional Apache / Nginx / cPanel
Upload the contents of your project folder via SFTP or cPanel File Manager to your server's web root (e.g. public_html/exhibitions/2026/). Remanet includes a bundled .htaccess file configuring caching and MIME types automatically.
37. SEO, Social Sharing & Privacy Analytics
Click Publish & analytics on the left rail to open the deployment configuration:
38. Offline Presentation & Standalone Museum Kiosks
Remanet's zero-cloud architecture means that a published exhibition is 100% self-contained. It can operate in air-gapped environments without any internet connection, including museum touch tables, art fair iPad kiosks, traveling educational exhibits, and long-term digital heritage vaults.
Local Web Server vs. Browser File Security
Modern web browsers enforce strict security policies (CORS) that prevent JavaScript and WebGL from loading local image tiles and font files directly via the file:/// protocol. To present offline, Remanet requires a lightweight local HTTP server running on the display computer:
| Platform / Tool | Startup Command | Advantages |
|---|---|---|
| Python 3 (Built-in) | python3 -m http.server 8080 |
Zero install on macOS and Linux. Open http://localhost:8080. |
| Node.js (serve) | npx serve . |
High-performance static file server with automatic Gzip/Brotli compression. |
| Caddy (Single binary) | caddy file-server --listen :8080 |
Ultra-low memory footprint (< 20 MB), instant startup, ideal for embedded kiosks. |
| Progressive Web App (PWA) | Browser menu → Install Remanet app | Launches in an independent desktop window with offline cache support. Zero command-line configuration. |
Full-Screen Kiosk Lockdown Settings
When deploying on public touchscreens or iPads in a gallery setting, configure the browser in dedicated kiosk mode:
- Chromium Kiosk Flags: Launch Chrome with:
google-chrome --kiosk --incognito --disable-pinch --overscroll-history-navigation=0 http://localhost:8080/#ui=kiosk
This hides the browser address bar, disables right-click context menus, and prevents visitors from navigating away or pinch-zooming the outer browser frame. - iPad Guided Access: In iOS Settings → Accessibility → enable Guided Access. In Safari, triple-click the top or side button to lock the iPad into the exhibition, disabling the Home swipe bar and hardware buttons.
- Auto-Idle Reset: Remanet includes an inactivity reset timer. If no visitor interacts with the screen for 3 minutes, the camera smoothly pans back to the opening vantage point and resets the tour for the next visitor.
SOP 1: 15-Minute Quick Start (SD Card to Published Tour)
- Create Folder: Launch Remanet and click New project. Choose an empty folder named
my-tour. - Import 360° Spheres: Drag stitched 2:1 equirectangular photos onto the stage. Wait for pyramid tiling to complete.
- Catalog Works: Switch to Works (2), click + Work in the library footer, enter title and artist, and attach high-res detail photos.
- Place in Gallery: Pan the camera to where the work hangs on the wall. Click Place work in this location.
- Draw Wall Outline: Select Three-point rectangle or Polygon. Trace the painting corners on the wall and press Ctrl/⌘ + Enter. Set polygon action to Artwork.
- Preview & Export: Click Preview to walk through the exhibition as a visitor. Your folder is completely saved and ready to upload!
SOP 2: Creating Doorway Room Portals
- Select the location you are departing from (e.g. Room 1).
- Choose Polygon or Three-point rectangle (P).
- Trace the visible doorway or floor threshold leading into the next room.
- Save the polygon (Ctrl/⌘ + Enter).
- In the polygon options, set Link or action to
Locationand choose Room 2. - In the destination settings, pan the camera to face into Room 2 and click Capture destination view so visitors arrive looking forward naturally.
SOP 3: Framing a Salon-Style Wall of Multiple Works
- Catalog each individual work in the Works list (2).
- In the room containing the salon wall, draw a separate polygon outline around each individual painting.
- Assign each polygon's action to its corresponding catalog artwork.
- In Opening Framing settings, set mode to
Dimensional bounds(e.g. 50% width / 60% height). When a visitor clicks any painting in the salon arrangement, the camera smoothly zooms in to frame only that specific work, and pulls back when dismissed.
SOP 4: Calibrating Wall Plaque Lighting
- Mount a blurb plaque on a gallery wall near an artwork.
- Open the Wall tags & blurbs panel on the left rail.
- Observe the real spotlight falling on the adjacent physical wall in your 360° photo.
- If the physical wall has warm halogen spotlights (~3000K), adjust the Color Temperature slider to between
+15and+35. - If the gallery uses cool daylight LEDs (~5000K), slide temperature towards
-20. - Adjust Brightness until the virtual card's white point matches the illuminated wall surface.
SOP 5: Placing & Masking an Installation Video Screen
- Switch to the Videos (6) tab (6) and upload your exhibition video file.
- In your gallery room, pan toward the video monitor or projection surface.
- Select Three-point rectangle and click the corners of the wall screen.
- Assign the polygon action to Video Screen and pick your video asset. The video warps in perspective to the wall plane.
- Choose an aspect ratio preset (e.g.
16:9) and use + or − to scale uniformly to fit the installation area. - To mask irregular projector borders or isolate the artwork portion, click Artwork mask in the toolbar. Draw a polygon tracing the exact art boundaries and save (Ctrl/⌘ + Enter). All overflow is clipped away and the background gallery sphere shines through!
- Press Space or click the center play button to audition playback and sound.
