Remanet Software License
The license governing use of the proprietary Remanet Builder.
Read Builder License →Remanet is free to use.
The Builder is proprietary.
Your work remains yours.
Remanet is free to use, but the Remanet Builder is proprietary software.
Artists retain control of their own work and project data. Exported exhibitions receive a separate license designed to let them remain hostable, transferable, editable, and preservable independently of Remanet.
Use the sections below to review the terms governing the Builder, exported exhibitions, and third-party software.

REMANET PROPRIETARY SOFTWARE LICENSE
Version 1.0
Effective Date: September 2026
Copyright © 2026 Ian Manseau. All rights reserved.
IMPORTANT: REMANET IS PROPRIETARY SOFTWARE. IT IS PROVIDED FOR USE, NOT FOR REDISTRIBUTION, REHOSTING, REPACKAGING, OR CREATION OF COMPETING SOFTWARE.
By selecting "I Agree," creating a project, opening a project, importing a project, or otherwise using the Remanet Builder after being presented with these terms, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this License.
If you do not agree to this License, do not use the Remanet Builder.
Remanet is provided for use through the official Remanet website. It is not open-source software and is not licensed for redistribution, rehosting, repackaging, or creation of competing software except as expressly provided in this License or the separate Remanet Export Runtime License.
For purposes of this License:
"Remanet" means the software product known as Remanet.
"Remanet.art" means the official Remanet website and any official subdomains or successor domains controlled by the copyright owner.
"Remanet Builder" means the Remanet browser-based exhibition-authoring application, including its original source code, object code, compiled or bundled JavaScript, HTML, CSS, user interface, visual design, documentation, data structures, original assets, and other proprietary components.
"Remanet Runtime" means the limited software components intentionally included by Remanet inside a legitimately exported exhibition for the purpose of displaying and operating that exhibition.
"Exported Exhibition" means an exhibition package legitimately generated through the Remanet Builder.
"User Content" means artwork, photographs, panoramas, text, audio, video, metadata, exhibition information, and other material supplied by a user.
Subject to compliance with this License, Remanet grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to access and use the Remanet Builder through Remanet.art solely for the purpose of creating, editing, previewing, and exporting exhibitions.
Remanet is currently made available without charge. Free access does not place the Remanet Builder in the public domain, make it open-source software, or grant any ownership interest in the software.
Except for the rights expressly granted in this License, no rights are granted by implication, estoppel, exhaustion, or otherwise.
The Remanet Builder and all copyrightable original material contained in it are owned by the copyright owner or, where applicable, licensed from third parties.
All right, title, and interest in the Remanet Builder remain with their respective owners.
Nothing in this License constitutes a sale or transfer of ownership of the Remanet Builder or any portion of it.
The availability of browser-delivered code, compiled code, scripts, assets, network resources, or other Remanet components does not grant permission to reproduce, redistribute, modify, rehost, republish, or commercially exploit those components except as expressly authorized by this License.
Except to the extent that a restriction is prohibited by applicable law or an applicable third-party license expressly grants broader rights, you may not directly or indirectly:
Nothing in this section limits lawful activity that cannot be restricted under applicable law, including rights expressly provided for interoperability, security research, or other statutory exceptions.
Remanet is not licensed under the MIT License, GNU GPL, Apache License, BSD License, Mozilla Public License, Creative Commons license, or any other open-source or source-available license unless a specific component expressly states otherwise.
Access to browser-delivered Remanet code does not constitute publication of source code under an open-source license.
No permission is granted to maintain or distribute an unofficial Remanet fork, clone, mirror, or alternative hosted instance.
Remanet does not claim ownership of User Content.
You retain whatever copyright, trademark, publicity, contractual, or other rights you already possess in artwork, photographs, panoramas, text, audio, video, metadata, exhibition design, and other material you provide to Remanet.
Using Remanet does not transfer those rights to the copyright owner of Remanet.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have sufficient rights to use any third-party material you include in an exhibition.
Remanet is designed around local-first processing.
Unless a feature clearly states otherwise, project content intended for exhibition creation should be processed within the user's browser rather than uploaded to Remanet for storage.
Actual network behavior, analytics, third-party resources, optional integrations, embeds, error reporting, or similar functionality must be accurately disclosed in Remanet's Ownership & Privacy information.
Nothing in this License grants Remanet ownership of user project data.
Remanet's restrictions on the proprietary Builder do not prevent users from exercising the rights intentionally granted for Exported Exhibitions.
Subject to third-party rights and the Remanet Export Runtime License, a user may:
An Exported Exhibition must not require continued access to Remanet.art for ordinary operation unless an optional external feature is clearly identified as requiring such access.
The rights granted for Exported Exhibitions do not grant a right to extract proprietary Remanet Runtime code for the primary purpose of creating a competing exhibition-building product or general-purpose software library.
Any Remanet Runtime intentionally included in an Exported Exhibition is licensed separately under the Remanet Export Runtime License accompanying that export.
Where this License conflicts with the Remanet Export Runtime License with respect to an exported Runtime component, the Remanet Export Runtime License governs that component.
Nothing in the Remanet Export Runtime License grants rights to proprietary portions of the Remanet Builder that are not included in the Exported Exhibition.
Remanet may incorporate or interact with third-party libraries, frameworks, fonts, icons, media, or other components.
Third-party components remain subject to their respective licenses.
Nothing in this License reduces, overrides, or restricts rights granted by a third-party license.
Required copyright notices, attribution, license texts, source-code offers, and similar notices must be preserved where applicable.
If you voluntarily provide suggestions, bug reports, feature requests, ideas, or other feedback concerning Remanet, you grant the copyright owner a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free right to use, reproduce, modify, implement, publish, and incorporate that feedback into Remanet without compensation or obligation to you.
This section does not transfer ownership of your artwork, exhibition content, project files, or other User Content.
Remanet may be identified as beta, preview, experimental, or pre-release software.
Beta software may contain errors, incomplete functionality, compatibility problems, or changes that result in projects behaving differently between versions.
You are responsible for maintaining appropriate backups of your project files, exported exhibitions, and original media.
Remanet may modify, suspend, discontinue, replace, or remove Builder functionality at any time.
Discontinuation of the Remanet Builder does not terminate perpetual rights previously granted for legitimately exported exhibitions under the Remanet Export Runtime License.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, REMANET AND THE REMANET BUILDER ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND.
THE COPYRIGHT OWNER DISCLAIMS ALL EXPRESS, IMPLIED, AND STATUTORY WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, SECURITY, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, COMPATIBILITY, AND DATA PRESERVATION.
NO ORAL OR WRITTEN INFORMATION OR ADVICE CREATES A WARRANTY UNLESS EXPRESSLY STATED IN A WRITTEN AGREEMENT SIGNED BY THE COPYRIGHT OWNER.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE COPYRIGHT OWNER, CONTRIBUTORS, AND PERSONS INVOLVED IN PROVIDING REMANET WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF REVENUE, LOSS OF BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, LOSS OF GOODWILL, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR COSTS OF SUBSTITUTE SERVICES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO REMANET.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE REMANET BUILDER OR THIS LICENSE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF:
OPTIONAL DONATIONS DO NOT CONSTITUTE PAYMENT FOR A WARRANTY, SERVICE LEVEL, SUPPORT OBLIGATION, OR EXPANDED LICENSE RIGHTS.
Nothing in this License excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the copyright owner from third-party claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and reasonable legal expenses arising from:
This section does not require indemnification for claims caused solely by the copyright owner's own unlawful conduct.
Remanet, Remanet.art, associated logos, visual identifiers, and other Remanet branding may function as trademarks or source identifiers regardless of registration status.
No trademark license is granted except for incidental display of Remanet attribution as part of a legitimately exported exhibition.
You may truthfully state that an exhibition was created with Remanet.
You may not use Remanet branding to name, market, or identify another software product, hosted service, distribution, fork, or commercial offering without written permission.
Your license to use the Remanet Builder terminates automatically if you materially violate this License.
Upon termination, you must cease unauthorized use, reproduction, distribution, hosting, or exploitation of the Remanet Builder.
Termination of the Builder license does not revoke perpetual rights previously granted under the Remanet Export Runtime License for an Exported Exhibition that was legitimately created before termination.
Sections concerning ownership, prohibited uses, User Content, third-party rights, warranties, liability, indemnification, trademarks, governing law, and other provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive.
Unauthorized reproduction, redistribution, hosting, modification, or commercial exploitation of the Remanet Builder may violate this License and may also violate copyright, trademark, unfair-competition, computer-access, or other applicable laws.
The copyright owner reserves the right to seek any remedies available under applicable law, including monetary damages and injunctive or equitable relief where legally available.
Nothing in this License creates a remedy or cause of action that would not otherwise be available under applicable law.
This License is governed by the laws of the State of Texas and applicable federal law of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
Any dispute arising from this License that may lawfully be brought in state or federal court will be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction located in Texas, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
If a more specific venue provision is adopted for Remanet's Terms of Use, that provision should be kept consistent with this License.
If any provision of this License is found invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent legally permissible, and the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
Failure to enforce any provision of this License does not waive the right to enforce that provision later.
A waiver is effective only if made in writing by the copyright owner.
You may not assign or transfer your Builder license or obligations under this License without written permission from the copyright owner.
This restriction does not prevent transfer of a legitimately Exported Exhibition as permitted under the Remanet Export Runtime License.
A revised version of this License may govern future use of later versions of the Remanet Builder after the revised terms are presented to and accepted by the user.
A later Builder license will not retroactively revoke perpetual rights already granted for legitimately exported exhibitions under an applicable Remanet Export Runtime License.
This License, together with any applicable Remanet Terms of Use, Ownership & Privacy disclosures, Remanet Export Runtime License, and applicable third-party notices, constitutes the agreement governing use of the Remanet Builder to the extent those documents apply.
If there is a conflict:
All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
The Remanet Builder belongs to Remanet.
The artist's work belongs to the artist.
The exported exhibition remains the artist's to publish, preserve, move, and maintain under the rights expressly granted for that export.
REMANET EXPORT RUNTIME LICENSE
Version 1.0
Copyright © 2026 Ian Manseau. All rights reserved.
This License applies only to original Remanet software components intentionally included as part of an exhibition exported by Remanet ("Remanet Runtime").
It does not apply to the proprietary Remanet Builder and does not replace or modify licenses covering third-party components.
For each exhibition legitimately created or exported using Remanet, the user is granted a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, host, archive, back up, display, distribute, and modify the Remanet Runtime as part of that exhibition.
The license includes the right to provide the Exported Exhibition, including the Remanet Runtime, to another person or organization for hosting, maintenance, preservation, accessibility work, archival custody, or exhibition of that same project.
The license does not expire if Remanet.art becomes unavailable, Remanet is discontinued, or future versions of Remanet are released.
An Exported Exhibition may be:
No connection to Remanet.art, Remanet servers, an account system, licensing server, subscription service, or Remanet API is required for normal operation.
This License grants Remanet no ownership rights in the user's artwork, photographs, panoramas, text, metadata, audio, video, exhibition design, project data, or other user-created content.
Users remain responsible for obtaining any necessary rights for third-party material included in their exhibitions.
HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, configuration, metadata, media references, and other project-specific files generated specifically for the user's exhibition may be copied, modified, archived, transferred, and published by the user without additional permission from Remanet, subject to third-party rights and licenses.
This permission does not grant permission to copy or redistribute unrelated portions of the proprietary Remanet Builder that are not included in the Exported Exhibition.
The Remanet Runtime may not be extracted, repackaged, redistributed, sold, or offered primarily as:
These restrictions do not prevent reasonable modification, copying, or redistribution of the Runtime as part of a legitimately exported exhibition for its operation, accessibility, maintenance, preservation, presentation, transfer, or adaptation.
They also do not restrict rights granted by applicable law or by a third-party license.
Remanet attribution included in an Exported Exhibition may be removed by the artist or another person authorized to modify that exhibition, unless a specific third-party component requires attribution or another notice under its own license.
Use of the Remanet name or logo to imply sponsorship, endorsement, partnership, certification, or official status is not permitted without authorization.
Removing Remanet attribution does not remove copyright or license notices required for third-party components.
Third-party software, fonts, icons, media, and other materials included in an Exported Exhibition remain governed by their respective license terms.
Where those licenses require notices, attribution, source-code availability, source-code offers, or other conditions, those requirements remain in effect.
The included THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt file must not be removed where its contents are required by an applicable license.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE REMANET RUNTIME AND EXPORTED EXHIBITIONS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE COPYRIGHT OWNER AND CONTRIBUTORS TO REMANET WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR DAMAGES ARISING FROM THE USE, MODIFICATION, HOSTING, PRESERVATION, TRANSFER, OR DISTRIBUTION OF AN EXPORTED EXHIBITION OR REMANET RUNTIME.
Nothing in this License excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Rights granted under this License to a legitimately exported exhibition are perpetual and survive discontinuation of Remanet, Remanet.art, or future versions of the software.
REMANET THIRD-PARTY NOTICES
Public Beta · 2026-09-10
The distributed builder and exported viewer currently contain no third-party JavaScript libraries, CSS frameworks, icon sets, or CDN dependencies. They use original Remanet code and standard browser APIs, including WebGL, Canvas and the File System Access API. Inter and DM Mono are bundled locally under the SIL Open Font License 1.1; see LICENSE-Inter.txt and LICENSE-DMMono.txt. Sources: https://github.com/rsms/inter and https://github.com/googlefonts/dm-mono. No remote font requests are made. The sample Residue panorama is user-provided content, not a software dependency; its ownership is unchanged.
Node.js is used for local development tools and tests only and is not included in this website or its exhibition exports. Browser and operating-system software retain their own licensing. Future bundled dependencies must be audited and their required notices included here before distribution.
OPTIONAL GOOGLE ANALYTICS
When an exhibition creator explicitly enables Google Analytics, its published tour can load Google's remotely hosted Google tag (gtag.js). This script is not bundled with Remanet. Google Analytics is a third-party service subject to Google's terms and privacy policies. Visitor usage information is sent to Google; the creator supplies the measurement ID. The hosted Builder website separately uses Google Analytics with the site owner’s measurement ID. This website tag is not exported with tours; the standard tag also loads when these website pages are previewed locally over HTTP or HTTPS. Tracking is disabled by default; the default enabled configuration asks for visitor permission before loading Google's script.
Enabled exhibition analytics reports manual virtual scene page views, scene_view, artwork_view and navigation_hotspot events to the artist’s GA4 property. It uses the actual hosting URL and does not depend on Remanet servers. Scene URLs are internal reporting values only; the viewer does not change browser history. No additional GA4 configuration is required.
